The Hungarian demo site successfully integrated three developments (RP2, RP7 and RP8). Students can now enjoy using the renovated dormitory.

At the Hungarian demo site, three developments were integrated within the framework of the REHOUSE project: the Adaptable Dynamic Building Envelope (ADBE) (RP2) provided the framework and holder for the facade cladding, and integrated the Intelligent Windows (RP8) system like an organic part of the system. In addition, Activated Cellulose (RP7) was also integrated into the ADBE system.
Platanplan Ltd. (PLATAN) participates in the REHOUSE project on the construction side, primarily responsible for the implementation of RP2 and its integration with RP8, which have been successfully completed.
The implementation involved numerous challenges, particularly with regard to the age of the demo building and the accuracy of the technical implementation available at that time.
The building was constructed in the early 20th century, mainly of brick, with a considerably large size, approximately 40 meters long and slightly less than 10 meters wide, with two floors. The challenge lay in the geometric inaccuracies, namely a significant curvature in the middle of the long wall surface, and there were also irregularities in the vertical plane.
An additional task was to resolve the differences in window sizes and, in particular, the lack of a horizontal plane. The deviation reached 5-8 centimeters, and there was also a difference in the levels of windows on the two long sides of the building.
Forty-one windows (2.1 meters high and 1.1 meters wide) were selected on the building for the development and implementation of the IWS system (RP8). The dimensional variations of the windows had to be managed together with the IWS frame system and the ADBE system.
The technical challenge for the ADBE system was how to maintain the strength of the facade behind the surface area next to the window, where the IWS moves. For this purpose, a special stiffening solution was developed, with smaller frames directly behind the cladding panel. To hold the cladding panel in place, vertical ADBE beams were installed on the left and right sides, together with the vertical frame elements (picture below).

The ADBE system, in addition to ensuring the structure of the insulation and the IWS system, also made it possible to level out the uneven sections, resulting in a perfectly flat and straight surface.
