BLOG: VERIFY | A web-based tool for Life Cycle Assessment and Costing of Building Energy Systems

In the transition toward a climate-neutral Europe, buildings stand at the crossroads of energy, technology and human comfort. They are among the largest contributors to energy consumption and emissions, but also one of the greatest opportunities for meaningful impact.

This is where VERIFY comes in. Developed at the Chemical Process & Energy Resources Institute (CPERI) of the Centre for Research & Technology Hellas (CERTH) and brought to market through the spin-off SUSTENERGO, VERIFY transforms the way we understand and manage the sustainability performance of buildings and districts.

From Data to Decisions

VERIFY is more than a monitoring tool, it’s a web-based intelligence platform that integrates Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and Life Cycle Costing (LCC) in real time. By connecting IoT sensors, energy systems and digital twins, it continuously evaluates the environmental and economic performance of buildings across their entire lifecycle. VERIFY answers the critical questions every energy planner or facility manager faces:

  • How sustainable is our building?
  • Are our energy investments paying off over time?
  • How can we reduce impact without compromising comfort or cost?

Smarter, Evidence-Based Sustainability

Through its dynamic approach, VERIFY bridges design, operation and policy. It combines real-time monitoring with predictive analysis, helping users to plan upgrades, evaluate renovation scenarios and verify results. The tool follows international standards such as ISO 14040 / 14044 and ISO 15686-5, ensuring credibility and comparability of sustainability assessments.

What sets VERIFY apart is its ability to adapt since it can be used for a single building or an entire district, integrating data from renewable production, storage, HVAC systems and building management systems. Its AI-driven decision support helps optimize performance, assess risks and ensure compliance with ESG and EU ETS requirements.

Shaping the Next Generation of Sustainable Buildings

As buildings become more connected and data-rich, tools like VERIFY redefine how we measure sustainability, not as a static score, but as a living process of improvement. By linking real-time data with lifecycle thinking, VERIFY supports a new culture of transparency, accountability and informed action across the built environment.

The future of sustainable construction will depend on our ability to see clearly, decide wisely and act responsibly… and VERIFY is here to make that vision measurable.
