The Demo Site is located in Democritus University of Thrace (DUTH) Campus. The demo site is located at Kimmeria municipality, close to the city of Xanthi in the region of Thrace. The building has a parking at the North and open space at the South. The neighbouring buildings are at about a 50m Northwest from the building.

Key challenges

The building has a low efficiency energy performance mainly due to its envelope, resulting in increased heating demand. In addition, the usage of the building includes increased domestic hot water demand. As part of building complex, the building is covered through the central heating system, which comprises a biomass boiler and a solar thermal system. Also, there is no cooling system installed. Reducing the heating demand of the building and optimizing the use of RES technologies are one of the major challenges for Kimmeria demo site. 

Another challenge that the Kimmeria Demo Site has to deal with is the degree of convenience of the building tenants during the RPs’ integration phase. The fact that the building is currently inhabited poses a general challenge for most renovation projects the addressing of which is important for the duration of the intervention.

The Greek Demo refers to a student’s dormitory building inside the Democritus University of Thrace (DUTH) Campus built in 1997. The building’s specific location coordinates consist of 41.1468407o latitude and 24.9140676o longitude. Moreover, the present analysis emphasizes the study of the dormitory block named ‘Building C2’ which is just a part of the total campus area.
