A speech on “Application of thermography for the survey of structural elements on concrete buildings for the rapid and accurate creation of the digital model (BIM)” was presented by Angelo Tatì from ENEA, in the AIPND AITI Conference on INFRARED THERMOGRAPHY held in Naples, Italy on 5th of July.
As we know, in the framework of non-destructive building diagnostics, there is a need to develop rapid techniques and methods for checking and evaluating the integrity of floors, beams, and pillars. Thermography was found to be suitable for this type of analysis. This methodology gave positive results and was also applied within the European REHOUSE project activities, for the design evaluation and digitalization of the social building, in Margherita di Savoia, Puglia, chosen as Italian demonstrator.
After having illustrated the results of the tests carried out in public ministries, the thermographic application was presented as part of REHOUSE project activities, with the aim of extracting construction details in a reliable and fast way.
Participants of the conference, mainly coming from Academia, Service Companies, Certification Bodies, and Research Bodies, raised several questions related to building recovery of schools and public offices demonstrated interest for such technologies. Thermographic technique was found to be a useful tool for speeding up the digitalization and evaluation process, yet it does not seem to be exhaustive when applied to structural diagnosis.
