VIDEO: Apulia Region and ENEA Showcase REHOUSE Project Innovations.

The energy renovation works have begun on the public housing building in the municipality of Margherita di Savoia, selected as the Italian demonstration site for the European REHOUSE project, which involves ENEA, the University of Basilicata, Rina Consulting, TERA, Steel Tech, R.I., Pedone Working, SUPSI, and Sunage.

Significant technological innovations and structural interventions were planned, such as a centralized system for hot water production and cooling, a wall insulation with natural materials such as hemp, and a photovoltaic façade, aiming to reduce building energy consumption and CO2 emissions, increasing the thermal insulation and living comfort, improving tenants living conditions.

Apulia Region, in collaboration with ENEA, produced a video illustrating the different phases of scheduled works on Margherita di Savoia social housing building,  and showing how each technical step made on the building was accompanied by social participation and co-design, to highlight the important relationship established with tenants.

One of the key objectives of Margherita di Savoia requalification process is the achievement of cultural change in energy use through a people-centered approach, supporting the residents in accepting innovations, combining the technology with social cooperation and sharing the different phases of the requalification process to increase their awareness on the correct use of energy and better plant management.

ENEA experts have organized a simulation game on energy efficiency with tenants, called ENZEB, to transfer knowledge about changes expected during building renovation works and the importance of correct daily habits in energy use.

These efforts reflect the broader goals of REHOUSE, which aim to contribute to the achievement of the EU’s climate objectives, while also offering more inclusive and sustainable solutions to address social challenges, tackle energy poverty, create new relationships  and innovative forms of energy education, supporting people in relation to change through a common language to be experienced together.
