The STEH is an innovative system for managing and accumulating energy produced from PCM. It represents an economical and safe solution for health and the environment.
Most of Europe’s real estate is old and inefficient and redeveloping it quickly represents a fundamental measure for the decarbonisation process and for combating energy poverty.
The REHOUSE project is a Horizon Europe project with the objective to improve the efficiency of building renovation and energy requalification activities through the development of innovative solutions which, implemented on a large scale, can help accelerate the current rate of renovations.
Steel Tech is developing its system for the Italian demo site which involves the energy requalification of a 4-storey public housing building with 8 apartments for a total of 880 m2 located in Margherita di Savoia, Apulia Region, Italy. Steel Tech is a leader in the manufacturing of stainless-steel tanks: it manufactures tanks and small to large-sized installations for various industrial sectors: agri-food sector, chemical and pharmaceutical, environmental bioenergy. For REHOUSE project, Steel Tech is developing the storage system using natural and recycled materials. A sustainable system in environmental and economic terms as it does not use polluting and expensive substances, can be interfaced with various renewable electrical and thermal sources and cogeneration systems and can be integrated with pumps of heat offering the possibility of energy recovery and efficiency in a small volume. The STEH is an intelligent system as it is managed by an algorithm that makes its operation and connection with energy production and management systems, home automation and Industry 4.0 efficient as the storage system can also be implemented internally of production processes, especially those that produce a lot of heat or steam, allowing heat recovery. Thanks to its characteristics, the STEH represents a true hub for energy communities.
The system has a wide possibility of diffusion in Europe. The demand for energy storage systems is increasing more and more, as well as the need to energetically adapt the older real estate and heritage. The STEH system allows to respond to these needs with a significant reduction in costs and times compared to traditional systems. Furthermore, it is a system absolutely in line with the objectives of ecological sustainability, the reduction of emissions, decarbonization, the increase in energy production from renewable sources. The system, being also sustainable from an economic point of view, represents a support for the most fragile segments of the population, prevention and containment of social and/or health problems, for which it could find wide application in social housing contexts as well as in private and industrial ones.
